We enjoyed being back home. . .

Welcomed back Max and Bella from the kennel. . . washed clothes and put some travel stuff away. . .

Took a walk in the park and flew kites (a beautiful, breezy day, perfect for flying kites). . .

Had ice cream for dinner. . .

Held a lego grand prix. . . with Speed Racer and Snake [Plissken?] racing through the entry, dining room, living room, and kitchen. . . silly fun ending in a monkey heist, Snake crashing into the stands, and a call for ambulance and police. . .

notes from today . . .

Warmer day today. Yesterday was a bit chilly. And looking ahead to beach days (counting down the moments. . .), it's going to be high 80s and some 90s. . . bliss. . .

Loving summer and it's non-scheduled days. . . letting the boys stay in jammies till lunch (way too long, but even hard to get them out of them after lunch. . .).

Making plans for packing. . . Sending Luke's tuition check for preschool in the fall. . .[Does he have to grow up so fast?]

Feeling tiny bumps around my belly button that make me smile (and revelling in the flurry of activity I felt a few days ago around breakfast). . . Thinking this baby is going to be a vegetarian who loves pasta and pizza, but can't drink milk (based on my lactose intolerance and the fact that I dream of noodles at every meal). Come to think of it, I loved the pasta thing with Jack too (although I also loved chocolate milkshakes. . .and loved stopping to get one before our weekly baby hospital classes. . .mmm.....). With Luke I loved french fries (which explains a lot, I suppose). Salty, dipped in ketchup. (funny)

Hearing my boys playing at the train table together in Luke's room. Luke, being a crabby Sir Topham hat. Jack, sending troopers (storm or clone) here and there in search of bad guys. . .or good guys. . .not quite sure.

Boy haircuts tonight (with a quiet dinner afterwards at Chik fil A).

Thursday already?

coloring our world. . .

Yesterday the boys and I made homemade crayons. Something I wanted to do since I have been little. . .and was never allowed (Mom hated messy. . .so, Ha! Mom, I'll make my own home messy. . .adolescent rebellion, 20 some years later. . .pathetic, I tell you.).

Loved it. Had this tupperware bowl of old crayons that the gypsy in me could not throw in the garbage. So, today we peeled the papers off and broke them into bits. . .Lukey loved this part. Loved peeling the papers and breaking them (with some help). His favorites, of course, were the blue ones. Jack was patient to a point, but only for a while. Put them in an old muffin baking pan (I have been scouring Goodwill for ages, and finally found one for 75 cents), and baked them at 350 for about 10 minutes.

Watching them melt was like magic. . .little pots of colorful paint. . .I guess we let them cool for a couple hours. And I feared trying to remove them from the pan. . .But, surprisingly most came out on their own (or with a little twisting of the pan).

Spent the warm afternoon coloring with them on the front porch (love those huge coloring books. . .another wished for childhood goody. . .but these were gifts from Nan or Uncle Ken, I believe). Isn't there something magical about time on the front porch? Jack loved this part. . . discovering all the colors and how they might mix together. Luke had fun stacking them, and keeping a close eye on the blue one.

the tooth fairy always rings twice. . .

or is that the Postman?

Well, the postman never really rings around here anyway. . . and we don't even have a doorbell. . . (the humor isn't coming to me at 11 pm, oh well. . .).

I took Jack to the dentist for our 6 month check-ups a few months ago, near the end of the school year. They tried to do those xrays in his mouth, but he kept gagging (so like his Mama); so they did the panoramic ones. Very cool. I got to peek at my boys teeth and those ones coming in. . . And the dentist surprised me saying that his teeth are coming in very quickly. . .and not that it was a big deal, but that he would have the mouth of a 16 year old when he was somewhere between 8 and 10. . .

He'd been jiggling his top eye tooth (?that little one that's next to the big front one) for a while. . . and it happened to pop out Friday evening when he was brushing his teeth. Giddy, he put it in his tooth pillow, and made an impromptu picture for the tooth fairy (with the expectation that she would draw him something in return).

And she did visit. . . leaving him 6 quarters and her trademark magic sparkles all over his bed. . . (somewhere around 3 am. . .and I could swear I could hear her stomach rumbling). . . as well as a picture on the fridge for him to find at breakfast.

Little did she know that she would be making a return trip on Saturday. . . after that bottom little tooth (is that one an eye tooth too? or a foot tooth? toe tooth?) fell out in the bathtub. . .covered in bubbles.

This time, Picasso opted for a Star Wars picture (is there anything else?). . .with tooth battle droids and the tooth fairy and Jack with light sabers. So him. And that plucky girl returned at 3 am with more quarters and sparkles that led from the window (Jack left it open for her this time). . . and a Star Wars picture on the fridge (and he was all smiles this morning).
